El Caballo Golf Course is a public golf course, operated as a private business.   It is not owned or operated by the club.   We're providing this information here as the course does not have its own website, and it's useful - particularly for prospective members - to know about the course at which we are based.

The Course

The El Caballo Golf Course is an 18 hole public course locacted 60 km from Perth on the Great Eastern Highway, about 25 minutes from Northam.   It is tucked in behind, and shares an entrance with, the El Caballo Resort.

The course is not affiliated with the Resort - they are completely separate businesses.

El Caballo is a championship course carved through the picturesque Darling Ranges, and the topography provides plenty of variety.   It will test the skills of the low marker and present an interesting challenge for the high handicapper.   There are eight lakes, many rock drains or 'burns', ponds, doglegs and bunkers.   The fairways are tree lined and beautiful, but rarely flat.   In many cases, if you hit long, you must be quite accurate to avoid running off into a gully or other hazard.   Fairway bunkers are also stategically placed to test your accuracy off the tee.

Most of the greens are elevated and require a cautious approach. Bunkers, some very deep, protect them in front and some behind as well.   The greens are in great condition all year round.   Coring and sanding usually takes place around September, so please check in advance if this bothers you.

The views of the surrounding countryside are spectacular, and there is abundant wildlife - especially waterbirds.   Towards sunset in summer, a fair sized mob of kangaroos comes out to play.

How to get there

From Perth, take the Great Eastern Highway eastwards.   Just past the airport, veer right onto Great Eastern Highway Bypass.   Continue until the road ends at the Roe Highway.   Left onto Roe Highway, then right onto Great Eastern Highway at the lights.  Continue along the Great Eastern Highway through Mundaring and Sawyers Valley.   Continue past The Lakes roadhouse (Don't take the York turn-off).   Continue for another 8 minutes or so and you will see the Resort on your left.   Take the second entrance to the resort and continue around the resort buildings to the Golf Course car park.
